Church Row
Nestled within the picturesque Hampstead conservation area, the site of 12a Church Row is a quiet enclave within the heart of London. The clients brief provides a unique opportunity to design a fun and characterful home that evolves with the growing needs of family life.
The house is arranged along a principle curved facade - an occupiable threshhold between indoor and outdoor space, which frames the large mature South-Facing garden. The proposal re- orients the footprint of the building to drive a sustainable solar strategy - curating a series of moments throughout the day that are designed around a warm palette of natural light and honest materials. An appliqué of natural stone and brick - the structural and material approach of the building aspires towards an honest aesthetic, with fabrication techniques that are sustainable and authentic to the local heritage. Woven from a careful study of the surrounding area; The proposal has its own distinct character, an identity strong enough to avoid facsimile and sympathetic enough to avoid disrupting the character of Hampstead.
